this year we’ve seen a bunch of cool phones that are easy on the wallet in the latest is in Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro, we actually saw its predecessor just a few months ago, but this newer version comes with an edge-to-edge screen and a dual selfie cam, we are nasphones.com and this is our Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro Review .
the redmi note 6 pro has mostly the same looks as the redmi note 5, but the larger notch screen makes a big difference, the back is made of metal surrounded by plastic, the plastic frame is quite thin but it still contributes some grip it makes the phone easier to handle .
as you’re handling this phone just keep in mind that it isn’t waterproof, which is no surprise at this price point, probably the redmi note 6 pro’s biggest change is its hull screen with a cutout . Read More : Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite Full Specs and Price
it’s quite the improvement over the redmi note 5s display, the bezels in the chin are smaller resulting in a much higher screen to body ratio .
the screen is a 6.3 inch IPS LCD with a 1080p resolution and a pixel density of 403 PPI, content looks sharp and blacks are deep, so you get nice contrast and the notch isn’t too intrusive you can even up to hide it if you don’t like it .
brightness is very good on this display, up to 480 nits at maximum and the minimum brightness is excellent too at 1.3 nits which will save your eyes if you’re using this phone in the dark .
unfortunately the redmi note 6 pro had only an average score for an LCD and our sunlight legibility test, it’s usable outdoors but image quality suffers noticeably . Read More : Xiaomi Mi 9 Full Specs and Price
there are different color modes available but if color accuracy is your thing the standard contrast mode is the one to go with, just one thing I’m glad to see on this phone is a notification LED just to the left of the earpiece, it’s white only though no customizable colors for different apps .
storage is expandable on top of the 32 or 64 gigs built-in, you do have to choose between a memory card in a second sim though, we are a bit disappointed with the connectivity on the note 6 pro, the port is microUSB here not the more current USBC .
but at least we have a good old audio jack, sound through headphones is decent, not the cleanest we’ve tested but good for this price range, you can listen to FM radio too .
you can also listen to content using the single bottom firing speaker, it’s loud, just shy of the excellent mark in our tests and has little distortion, it isn’t the richest sounding setup out there .
though for biometric security the no.6 pro has a fingerprint scanner on the back, it’s always on accurate and super fast, you can also set a face unlock, which is very quick too, although since it uses the selfie cam instead of an infrared setup it doesn’t offer the same sort of security . keep in mind that the face unlock option is only available in specific regions, you’ll have to select one of these in settings to be able to use it .
the redmi note 6 pro just like the redmi note 5 runs on a snapdragon 6:36 chipset, coupled with three, four or six gigs of ram .
in benchmarks it does quite well, the Snapdragon 636 nearly tops the charts in this price range, has enough punch to be productive and games run without a hitch, plus is pretty powerful this 40 nanometer process .
the redmi note 6 pro is powered by a large 4000 mAh battery, the same is on the note 5 AI dual camera phone, as expected battery life is stellar, earning the same 92 hour endurance rating in our proprietary tests .
screen on time is a bit less now because of the larger screen, but it’s evened out by a better standby performance, charging with the bundled 10 watt charger got us from 0 to about 28% charge in 30 minutes, not exactly fast but about as fast as you can expect in this price segment . the redmi note 6 pro runs on MIUI 9.6 over Android 8.1 oreo, as you may well know MIUI is quite different from vanilla Android, at least we get a global rom here with a long list of supported languages and Google services pre-installed .
if you want you can use gesture based navigation, swiping up from the bottom acts like a home button, if you stop the sweat Midway you’ll summon the task switcher and swiping from the left or right sides of the screen access back .
MIUI also offers a proprietary gallery music and video player as well as a security app, and with Mi Remote you can use the redmi note 6 pro as a universal remote control thanks to the IR blaster on top of the phone .
the camera setup of the note 6 pro is a 12 megapixel F/1.9 main cam, along with a 5 megapixel depth sensor and a dual LED flash, the same as on the note 5 AI dual camera, there’s no OIS but you do get dual pixel autofocus here .
the AI toggles now right on the viewfinder an improvement over previous Xiaomi phones, it does recognize scenes mostly accurately, the thing is we didn’t notice any real difference between the AI shots and the regular photos in auto mode .
in auto mode the photos we snapped in daylight are good, there’s more than enough detail, realistic colors, very good contrast and little noise . Read More : Xiaomi Mi 8 Full Specs and Price
the dynamic range is average but what you’d expect from a camera without image stacking, the images come out a little soft but overall we like what we get with the note 6 of the camera .
if you opt for HDR is well balanced and doesn’t over process it helps to counter the limited dynamic range to some extent and recovers detail and highlight areas .
low-light photos aren’t too bad, in fact they’re better than what you’d expect to get from a budget device, the large sensor pixels and the bright aperture mostly make up for the lack of OIS and you rarely get an image as super noisy or very blurry .
portrait mode works reasonably well on the redmi note 6 pro, the edge detection has been improved since the note 5, the blur applied is a bit too strong for our taste, well that’s pretty subjective .
there is another dual camera on the redmi note 6 pro and it’s on the front, the main snapper is 20 megapixels with an F/2.0 aperture accompanied by a 2 megapixel depth sensor . Read More : Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Full Specs and Price
the 20 megapixel resolution might sound impressive but the actual resolved detail is hardly great, the colors and contrast on the other hand are very good .
the 2 megapixel depth sensor does help for better subject separation and selfie portrait shots, it’s not as good as on the main camera but still decent especially considering the price tag .
for video the redmi note 6 pro just like other recent redmi phones can captured up to 1080p@30fps, the quality is good, there’s plenty of detail, true to life colors, good sharpness and above-average dynamic range .
video stabilization is turned on by default, but if you want you can opt out of it from settings, you can actually enable 4k video recording on the redmi note 6 pro too, all you need to do is download a third-party app and you’ll be shooting in 4k@30fps in no time .
so that’s the redmi note 6 pro, it brings an edge-to-edge screen with nice contrast, great battery life, a solid processor and a pretty good camera, specs wise the no 6 pro doesn’t stand out that much from the pack, it has an outdated microUSB port and you have to do some extra legwork to get face unlock or 4k video recording here . Read More : Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Full Review
but regardless for around 200 euros the note 6 pro gives you a ton of them here buck, anyone looking for great value on the next phone should keep this one in mind and it deserves our recommendation .
