we are nasphones.com and this is the Huawei Mate 9 Review, is huawei’s flagship phablet ready to hit the US, let’s find out, right away we can see the hardware of the Huawei Mate 9 is a refined version of the Huawei Mate 8 .
it’s mostly unchanged, the Huawei Mate 9 is actually 1.7 millimeters slimmer than the mate 8 was, and that’s because the mate 8 had a 6 inch screen and the Huawei Mate 9 has a 5.9 inch screen .
so while this does make the phone a little bit slimmer it’s not going to make a huge difference, 5.9 inches is still a pretty large phone .
the corners on the Huawei Mate 9 are a little bit more rounded than the Huawei Mate 8 were, and besides that the Huawei Mate 9 has excellent attention to detail the chamfers that clicky buttons and the curved back is pretty much unchanged from the Huawei Mate 9 . Read More : Huawei P Smart 2019
but anyway if it ain’t broken why change it Huawei done a great job with the build quality and design of the Huawei Mate 9 .
now the Huawei Mate 9 is the first Huawei phone with Nougat 7.0 out of the box and that features their brand new emui 5.0 .
it does feature better visuals, and white and blue contrast looks great, the settings look great, the quick toggles are so much better now .
split screen is integrated into Android and there’s useful tools for professionals as well like there’s app twin if you use two SIM cards and you want to whatsapp accounts, you can do that with this phone . Read More : Huawei Mate X Full Specs
now the software in general takes a lot of inspiration from iOS, but Huawei was gracious enough to give us the option for an app drawer, so thank you Huawei, we appreciate it .
notifications on the other hand are just terrible on the Huawei Mate 9, there’s no icons at the top row of your notification shade is just a number, so if you have for notifications one is from a calendar two are from Facebook and one is a text you can’t see any of that until you actually pull the shade down .
and there’s no way to change it back to how it was all you can do is turn this off or leave the number and even just changing the launcher is a mission like you have to go to your default settings default there’s so many steps involved, it’s popular for Chinese manufacturer skins to be like this and we’re not so sure it’ll do well in the u.s.
moving on a performance the HiSilicon Kirin 960 (16 nm) cpu is an Octa-core (4×2.4 GHz Cortex-A73 & 4×1.8 GHz Cortex-A53) beast now that’s paired with 4 gigabytes of ram and a Mali-G71 MP8 GPU . Read More : Huawei Mate 20 Full Specs
now when the HiSilicon Kirin 960 (16 nm) came out in the Huawei Mate 8 it topped benchmark charts, and we’re happy to see that the 960 does that again as the best performing android cpu on deep bench for in the multi-core test .
the Huawei Mate 9 will handle anything you throw at it there’s no lag, no stuttering and games look great on the colorful display, now while we decided for a 1080p LCD IPS screen on the Huawei Mate 9 the colors look great, it’s a bright screen we don’t mind that it’s 1080p but the display density is lower than many other phones and we would hope to see a QHD screen on the Huawei Mate 10 .
the Huawei Mate 9 does have stereo speakers and the bottom one is pretty loud, but the front-facing one is not as loud as we would have hoped, that said the loudspeaker is pretty loud so you shouldn’t have any problems there .
so next up is battery life, now Huawei promised two full days of battery usage it’s 4000 milliamp hour battery, and we’re happy to report that the Huawei Mate 9 scored 82 hours in our endurance tests, and a great way to complement battery life is with great charging .
in our tests the Huawei Mate 9 went from 2% to 50% in 25 minutes, that’s crazy fast .
now on to the camera, Huawei partnered with Leica again for its second generation dual lens setup, which was first seen on the Huawei p9 . Read More : Huawei Mate 20 Pro Review
now there are two centers on the back both of which are optically stabilized, the camera uses details from the monochrome sensor and then colours them in with data from the RGB sensor .
and the result are some great-looking pictures, true to life colors, great details and well represented textures, dynamic range does well especially in monochrome mode .
there’s even a hybrid zoom which works mostly with software algorithms to achieve higher level of details even from far away .
low-light shots look great and HDR mode helps to boost the shadows up a bit but we still feel like the Google pixel took better photos at night .
there’s also a wide aperture mode which looks cool but isn’t really perfect when you look at it from up close, Huawei Mate 9 records great 4k video .
colors are great and details are crisp, but like many Android phones 4k recording doesn’t have image stabilization, but the 1080p videos do have it, and the stabilizer works pretty well . Read More : Huawei Mate 20 X
so where does that leave us with the Huawei Mate 9, you know with huawei entering the u.s. it might be a where the alternative to the note 7, and if you care about a large screen, long battery life and premium hardware and you don’t mind the lack of proper waterproofing, this could be the phone for you .
EMUI 9 is packed with features and if you can learn to live with EMUI 9 is imperfections then you’ll have a great time with the Huawei Mate 9 .
